SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Mediation Center of the Coastal Empire – Savannah, Ga.’s leading organization dedicated to helping citizens proactively manage conflict and creating a more conflict-resilient community – is delighted to host the 2025 Youth Programs Recognition and Awards Celebration on Wed., April 16 at 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria at Woodville-Tompkins High School, located at 151 Coach Joe Turner St. in Savannah, Ga. Doors open at 5 p.m.
This annual celebration will honor the remarkable contributions of young peacemakers, including Peer Mediators, volunteers and Positive Peer Influencers who are making a difference in Savannah-Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS) elementary, middle and high schools as well as the greater Savannah community.
“We look forward to our Youth Programs Recognition and Awards Celebration every year because it is so fulfilling to see young people who embody the spirit of peace and leadership receive well-deserved recognition,” said Sherlisa Praylo, Director of Youth Initiatives at The Mediation Center of the Coastal Empire. “This annual event serves as a call to action for our community to invest in our youth and to support the development of future leaders who are committed to fostering peace.”
Outstanding educators and local organizations who support The Mediation Center’s Youth Programs will also be recognized for their commitment to engaging youth in conflict resolution and developing future leaders who foster peace. Awards will be presented to the High School and Middle School Coordinators of the Year for their outstanding contributions to The Mediation Center’s Youth Programs.
In addition, two SCCPSS schools will be honored at the celebration. The Most Influential School Award will be presented to New Hampstead High School for its overall impact throughout the 2024-2025 academic year. The Platinum Award will be presented to Herschel V. Jenkins High School for conducting the most peer mediations and for successfully fostering a culture of conflict resolution.
Peer Mediators will be recognized for helping make their schools more peaceful places to learn and grow. One outstanding Peer Mediator will be presented with the Peer Mediation Student Engagement Award for dedication to the Peer Mediation Program, exemplary leadership and advocacy for a peaceful school climate.
At the Youth Programs Recognition and Awards Celebration, one high school student will be honored as the Positive Peer Influencer of the Year and recognized for their commitment to leading by example and fostering a supportive community through integrity and mentorship. In addition, one individual will be presented with the Extra Mile Award for their significant contributions to The Mediation Center’s Youth Programs.
The Mediation Center of the Coastal Empire’s Youth Programs are made possible with support from community partners including Savannah-Chatham County Public School System, Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team and Chatham County Juvenile Court.
