Strong local businesses do more than create jobs and provide services. They build families, create opportunity, strengthen neighborhoods, and help shape the future of a community.
That belief sits at the heart of the Greater Savannah Black Chamber of Commerce.
Founded as a grassroots effort to create greater economic opportunities for Black entrepreneurs, the Greater Savannah Black Chamber of Commerce has grown into a thriving network connecting business owners, professionals, community partners, and supporters throughout Savannah and the Coastal Empire.
Its mission centers on empowering Black and small businesses through economic development, education, advocacy, and community partnerships, with a larger vision of creating an environment where businesses are visible, valued, equipped to grow, and positioned to create lasting prosperity.
Led by President and CEO Moncello Stewart, the Chamber works to help entrepreneurs move beyond simply opening a business to building something sustainable. That means creating access to resources, strengthening business skills, increasing visibility, developing relationships, and ensuring small-business voices have a place in conversations that can shape their future.
Today, the Chamber represents a growing network of more than 400 minority-owned businesses and professionals.
Throughout the year, those connections come to life through professional development workshops, networking mixers, ribbon cuttings, grand openings, community events, business education, advocacy initiatives, and opportunities designed to connect entrepreneurs with customers, partners, mentors, funding resources, and one another.

Among the Chamber's signature initiatives is the Black Business Expo, which has grown into a major celebration of entrepreneurship and opportunity. The most recent Expo welcomed more than 3,500 attendees, and over 150 vendors, providing businesses an opportunity to showcase their products and services while creating new relationships throughout the community.
Other programs bring that same mission to life in different ways.
The Black Excellence Annual Gala recognizes local leaders, entrepreneurs, and change-makers. EmpowHer celebrates women who are helping shape the region through leadership and entrepreneurship. Monthly professional development workshops provide practical education in areas such as finance, marketing, leadership, and innovation, while networking socials create spaces where conversations can become collaborations.
The Chamber's monthly Business Floods take community support directly to local businesses by encouraging people to intentionally gather and spend with Black-owned establishments. Ribbon cuttings and grand openings celebrate entrepreneurial milestones while giving new and growing businesses additional community visibility.
The Chamber has also worked to put resources directly into the hands of entrepreneurs. Through its Greater Savannah Small Business Revitalization Program, more than $80,000 was recently awarded to 11 local Black-owned small businesses, helping strengthen companies and support their continued growth.
Underlying all of these efforts is something bigger than networking.
The Greater Savannah Black Chamber of Commerce sees entrepreneurship as a pathway toward economic opportunity, community strength, and generational wealth. By bringing businesses, nonprofits, government agencies, funders, corporations, and community partners together, the Chamber works to create an ecosystem where local entrepreneurs have more opportunities to grow and lead.
The results can often begin with something as simple as a conversation. According to the Chamber, 75% of its members report making new business connections through GSBCC events.
That relationship-driven approach makes the Chamber's work especially important in a growing region like Savannah. As new businesses open, established companies expand, and new opportunities emerge throughout the Coastal Empire, ensuring local entrepreneurs are part of that momentum helps strengthen the entire community.
At its core, the Greater Savannah Black Chamber of Commerce is about people helping people move forward — creating connections, opening doors, celebrating success, and building opportunities that can extend far beyond a single business.
Because when local businesses have the opportunity to thrive, the impact doesn't stop at their front door. It spreads through families, neighborhoods, and ultimately the community we all call home.
