Davenport House Museum to Commemorate America’s 250th Birthday with Community Wish Wall Celebration on Fri., June 26 from 10 a.m. to noon

WHO:

Davenport House Museum, an award-winning house museum operated by Historic Savannah Foundation (HSF). Originally built by master carpenter Isaiah Davenport in 1820, this historic Federal-style home overlooking Columbia Square, was saved from demolition by seven brave women in 1955, resulting in the founding of Historic Savannah Foundation and the beginning of the modern-day preservation movement in Savannah, Ga.

WHAT:

Wish Wall Celebration. The Davenport House Museum invites local residents and visitors of all ages to a Wish Wall Celebration, launching a collaborative community art project with Savannah-based creative studio The Makers Guild and the Southwest Middle School Student Council. The Wish Wall, which will be located on the Habersham Street side of the Davenport House Museum, provides a space for the public to reflect on America’s milestone 250th anniversary and share their hopes, dreams and aspirations for the next 250 years.

The Wish Wall is part of a national initiative organized through Made By Us as part of Civic Season, the period between Juneteenth and Independence Day when communities across the country come together to connect with history, celebrate civic engagement and imagine the future.

The Wish Wall celebration, which is free and open to the public, will offer attendees the opportunity to add a wish to the participatory mural and to become part of a historic conversation about the future. The Wish Wall at the Davenport House Museum will remain on display and available for public participation through July 10.
