Savannah VOICE Festival Celebrates America250 With Patriotic Themed Performances

SAVANNAH, GA – Savannah VOICE Festival is proud to celebrate 250 years of America with several patriotic-themed performances during its 14th annual festival, Sunny Days and Starry Nights, taking place August 7–16.

“Broadway’s Golden Age,” happening at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, August 8 at the Unitarian Universalist Church, “American Aria – Reflections of a Legend,” happening at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 15, at the Davenport House Preservation Room and the season finale, “American Opera Celebration,” taking place Sunday, August 16, at First Baptist Church, will explore the evolution and enduring influence of American opera through the decades.

“Broadway’s Golden Age” will be a grand night featuring SVF artists celebrating the Golden Age of Broadway, roughly mid-20th century. Some of the most memorable Broadway musicals come from this era, known for the brilliance of Porter, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Lerner & Lowe, and Bernstein. Attendees will leave with a song in their heart after an evening of hit tunes and enchanting melodies from this influential period in American theatre.

Sherrill Milnes, renowned worldwide as a “Verdi baritone,” performed on stages across the globe, but American music has always remained central to his career. “American Aria – Reflections of a Legend” will feature an intimate conversation with Maestro Milnes as he reflects on the American opera, musical theatre, and song that shaped his extraordinary artistic journey.

This conclusion to the 14th season Festival will feature VOICE Artists performing scenes from the rich canon of American opera. Patrons will experience the grandeur, sincerity, and storytelling that define this uniquely American repertoire while honoring the nation’s 250th anniversary. A Patron Ticket includes a brunch at 45 Bistro at 1 p.m., followed by premium seating for the spectacular Festival finale at 5 p.m. Premium seating is available exclusively through the Patron Ticket package.

“American opera tells the story of who we are — our history, our diversity, our struggles, and our triumphs,” said Torlef Borsting, Executive Director of the Savannah VOICE Festival. “As we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, we are honored to showcase the extraordinary contributions American composers and performers have made to the world of opera while continuing to inspire the next generation of artists.”
