SAVANNAH, GA – Asbury Memorial Church has announced the lineup for its popular “God on Broadway” series, which takes place every Sunday this October. These services combine sermons and liturgy with the themes and music from popular Broadway shows. Sunday worship services will begin at 11 a.m. at Asbury Memorial Church located on 1008 E. Henry Street.
“God on Broadway” will kick off Sunday, Oct. 4 by using elements of the musical, “Waitress,” which explores a talented pie-maker who is stuck in hard times, but she finds hope through a baking contest and new friendships. It will be followed by “Guys and Dolls”on Oct. 11, a musical romantic comedy involving the unlikeliest Manhattan pairings. The series continues with “The Sound of Music” on Oct. 18, highlighting how courage, love, faith, and music can help people overcome deep hardships. The series will conclude with “The Neil Diamond Musical:A Beautiful Noise” on Oct. 25, a musical that tells the life story of legendary American singer-songwriter Neil Diamond.
Under the direction of minister of music Ray Ellis, the Asbury Choir will perform music from the shows which resonates with the scripture selected each Sunday in October. The sermons, preached by senior pastor Rev. Billy Hester, will be inspired by both the Biblical texts and the plots of the shows.
